Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (May 21) -- Officials of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples(NCIP) in Cagayan Valley has asked tribal communities here to participate and give their full cooperation on the on-going national census on population and housing.
"Be proud to be Isinai, Ayangan, Tuwali, Agta, Bugkalot, Gaddan and Kalanguya among others and tell this to the enumerators to be counted as such," Ruben Bastero, NCIP regional director said.
Speaking before the crowd during the Wat-wat festival here Friday, Bastero added that indigenous communities should be proud to identify themselves as members of their indigenous communities once the enumerators commissioned by the National Statistics Office(NSO) will come within their villages.
According to Bastero, Nueva Vizcaya?s culture is one of a kind in the region if not for the country because it consists of 15 tribes compared to other provinces in Cagayan Valley.
The national census on population and housing is being conducted by the NSO from May 17 to June 22 in the country.
Bastero said the basis o identifying the identity of cultural communities during the census process is based on their tribal origin.
The national census on population and housing is being undertaken by the government to provide up-to-date statistics on the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of the population that will serve as bases in the formulation of development programs and allocation of scarce local and national resources in the service of the Filipinos.
The National Statistical Coordination Board(NSCB) promulgated Resolution No. 12 Series of 2009 declaring May 2010 as National Census Month while Resolution No. 14 enjoins agencies to provide assistance to the NSO. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
