DOE to hold power conservation and efficiency seminar

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (25 May) -- Designated energy conservation officers from government agencies will undergo a seminar on power conservation and efficiency to be conducted by the Department of Energy, Energy Utilization Management Bureau on May 26 at the Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City.

This is an initiative of the government sector in implementing program and activities to achieve energy savings.

The Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) is one of the programs that aims to reduce the monthly consumption of electricity and monthly petroleum products by at least 10 percent in all government entities.

It was President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who launched in 2004 the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program (NEECP) to make energy efficiency and conservation a way of life.

It aims to cushion the impact of increases in petroleum prices through energy efficiency and conservation measures, promote savings on fuel and electricity without sacrificing productivity, get firm savings commitments from identified sector groups, and help protect the environment.

The program targets to achieve a total energy savings of 234 MMBFOE in the ten year period reduction of 15.7% in all importations. It hopes to reach forex savings of $11.50 billion and 50,850 Gg CO2 equivalent emissions avoidance.

To cap the seminar is the scheduled spot check of government buildings that will determine the rating of grades pertinent to their level of compliance to Administrative Orders 110,126, and 183. (PIA XI) [top]
