by Oliver T. Baccay
Tuguegarao City (27 May) -- The PROCESS Luzon has creatively animated the formation of strong autonomous People's Organizations (POs) and strengthened their capabilities for participatory and self reliant development in Cagayan province.
PROCESS Luzon is a non-government organization which aims to facilitate the formation and strengthen participatory sectoral and multi-sectoral people's organizations, especially the indigenous people.
Ms. Lily Alcantara, Vice-Chair, said the organizations main objective is to develop capacities of the disadvantaged to use law as a resource for their improvements.
Alacantara said in Cagayan, they focused their attention to the Agtas in the upland to assist them to broaden access, control and management of their ancestral domains.
"We help them boost their capabilities and capacities to manage their resources to meet their daily needs and to balance the management of the environment within their territory", Alcantara said.
Aside from the Agtas, PROCESS Luzon has also organized several groups such as farmers and fisherfolks in the upland, island, and coastal zones of the province.
Alcantara further discussed that they also help in promoting community based approaches to natural resource management in the Sierra Madre de Cagayan, especially the management of biodiversity landscape and seascape of the province.
Process Luzon also serves as the voice of the POs and IPs in the different councils and committees that deal with the management of the environment and the people's organization in the province. (PIA 2) [top]
