Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya (May 27) -- More than 12,000 board feet of illegal forest products being transported in various parts of the region have been confiscated, according to officials of the environment and natural resources here.
Benjamin Tumaliuan, DENR regional executive director said the figure covers January to May this year which originated from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Quirino, Cagayan and Batanes.
"This is a product of our joint efforts with local government units which also represented their sector to our anti- illegal logging task forces in the region," he said.
The regional director said the accomplishment also showed the result of shared responsibility of forest protection efforts now being downloaded within the communities.
"We keep telling our provincial environment and natural resources officers and community environment and natural resources officers to coordinate and touch base with their respective local government executives even in the barangay level," he explained.
Tumaliuan also underscored that despite the insufficient resources of the DENR, local government units in the region have also responded on their call for multi-sectoral forest protection efforts to stop the trade of illegal forest products inside and outside the Cagayan Valley region.
He said that with their intensified multi-sectoral anti-illegal poaching and logging efforts, illegal activities have gone down. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
