Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya (May 27) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) in Cagayan Valley on Thursday opened their two-day command conference and assessment at the former New Tribes Mission in barangay Darapidap here.
Hosted by DENR Nueva Vizcaya, the activity which was attended by some 189 participants from the region seeks to provide a venue to assess existing programs and projects of the DENR in their respective area of operations.
"This will also serve as a forum where we can present our performance, address current issues and discuss recommendations to further improve our existing programs, projects and activities in the region," said provincial environment and natural resources officer Robert Apigo.
The first part of the conference was a nearly 100-kilometer motorcade from Diadi town to Aritao town to drum up support on climate change and forest protection programs and projects.
Diadi town has been the venue of a series of forest fires since March this year which damaged several hectares of the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park (LMET) and Reforestation Project, planted with various fruit bearing and common tree species.
Apigo also said that one of the major areas to be discussed during the conference will be the agency's programs, projects and activities geared on addressing climate change in the region.
He said provincial and community plans to address climate change will be crafted which will be implemented this year with the support of other sectors in the provinces of Cagayan Valley.
"Programs and projects designed to address climate change will be put in place and be carried out by various stakeholders in our respective communities with our leadership," Apigo said. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
