PIA Press Release

DTI brings business name registration closer to public

San Jose, Antique (28 May) -- In an effort to reach out to small scale business entrepreneurs at the municipal level, the Department of Trade and Industry conducted mobile Business Name Registration in the town of Laua-an.

This is in line with the implementation of Republic Act 3883 or the Business Name Law which requires businessmen to register their entities with the DTI before starting a business.

Lynna Joy B. Cardinal, Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI emphasized that Business Name Certificate is a requirement before business owners can be issued a Mayor’s Permit to operate.

During the mobile business name registration in the town of Laua-an, about 59 retail store owners and other services in the poblacion and different barangays applied for business name.

The municipal government of Laua-an under the leadership of Mayor Aser Baladjay was very supportive of the undertaking contributing to the success of the activity.

Aside from mobile business name registration, DTI is also promoting the on-line Business Name Registration System (BNRS) in municipalities with internet connections. Using the system, the public can log on to DTI-BNRS website and directly process their BN applications.

This system will eliminate the effort, time and cost that will be incurred by the applicants in going to DTI Office to register their BNS. They can just lodge their applications in the comfort of their homes, offices or internet cafés.

Business name registration is one of the services of DTI aimed at regulating and monitoring the practices of business transaction. (DTI/PIA) [top]
