DOLE invites applicants to OFW scholarship program
Tabuk City, Kalinga (29 May) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here is still awaiting applicants to avail of the OFW-Dependents Scholarship Program (OFW-DSP).
DOLE Kalinga Provincial Head, Dr. Avelina Manganip said that Kalinga as well as the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Ifugao and Baguio-Benguet were given 12 slots each for the scholarship while Mt. Province has 20 slots.
Based on DOLE guidelines, applicants must be the legal dependent of an active Overseas Workers Welfare Administration(OWWA) member with a monthly salary of US$400.00 and below.
An OWWA active member is allowed only to avail only one scholar. OFW couples who are both eligible for the program can only avail of one slot, she explained. OFWs who have availed of the EDSP or the CMWSP will no longer qualify for the OFW-DSP.
Eligible for the program are incoming first years and those already enrolled in college.
For those who will pass the qualification, a grantee is entitled to a financial assistance of P20,000.00 or P10,000.00 per semester covering the tuition fee and other academic expenses to be released on semestral basis. Expenses for summer classes will not be reimbursed.
Each beneficiary will also be covered with a health and accident insurance coverage worth P100,000.00.
For more information, DOLE is encouraging interested applicants to inquire from their office other needed requirements. (ggdumallig/PIA-Kalinga) [top]
