More companies venture at Baguio processing zone

Baguio City (29 May) -- Companies are expanding their operations in the Baguio City Export Processing Zone (BCEPZ) creating more jobs and increasing revenues.
BCEPZ Manager for Operations, Engr. Mody L. Agyao Jr. said that the latest to venture to the area is the Tree Top Adventure. Construction of the zip lines, which are expected to attract tourists, is on-going at Camp John Hay (CJH).
The Tree Top Adventure offers fascinating outdoor packages for families to enjoy. This is an eco-adventure theme park for nature-tripping with perfect forest backdrop.
Recently, the Ayala Land Incorporated (ALI) had groundbreaking for the construction of a techno hub located also in CJH. Call centers, retail shops and condominium units will be put up by the investors, Agyao said.
The project will likewise ensure the establishment and maintenance of a central park and many open green areas. It promises to create a walker-friendly environment.
According to Agyao, the proponents aim to create a technology center that will serve as a hub for Information Technology (IT) related businesses operating in the country. This was not conceptualized merely to serve business process outsourcing ventures (BPOs) but to host the operations of actual local and international hardware and software firms.
The venture supports the creativity and know-how of the Filipino, who they believe can successfully operate more than call centers. In a bigger picture the hub is foreseen as a real-world laboratory for small startup IT firms, Agyao pointed out.
Meanwhile, Sitel Philippines Corporation, one of the country' s leading business process outsourcing firms, started operating its third site last March of this year, he said.
While competition is stern in the call center industry, other call centers are having their own expansion like the Peoples Support and IHG call center.
A lot of foreign and local investors in PEZA have already generated so many jobs in this mountain resort city and in the neighboring provinces over the past several years.
The Baguio based PEZA has one of the best records in terms of collecting the fees due from its locators and they are not delinquent in their payment of taxes, Agyao added. (PIA-CAR) [top]
