Baguio City (29 May) -- The Baguio City National High School launched the "Brigada Eskwela2010" last week to jumpstart the preparations for the coming school year before the June 15 school opening.
BCNHS Principal Dr. Elma Dona-al said "Brigada Eskwela" is a maintenance week for all public schools with the help of its stakeholders such as the alumni, school governing council, the parents-teachers association, students, teachers, non-government organizations, religious sector, business sector among others.
Dona-al said the idea is such that the moment the child or student goes back to school, the classrooms would be conducive for learning leaving an imprint for him or her to go to school everyday. For others especially for those renting, it would hopefully be better than their homes, she added.
This is something to look forward to come to school everyday as the school is children's second home, Dona-al further said. She said this is an opportune time for parents who have some materials to share such as paint, nails or plyboard or skills to share in carpentry, masonry, sewing or monetary resources to share for the repair of classrooms and for functional comfort rooms.
During the opening of the school year, students will not be cleaning for the whole week but already oriented on rules and regulations for the incoming first year. The other year levels would be oriented on the lesson content and expectations for the school year.
The Brigada Eskwela is a weeklong activity in partnership with the stakeholders, who according to Dona-al, showed commitment and help improve educational system for the welfare of the studentry.
She is calling on all stakeholders of Brigada Eskwela for their support and expertise for an all year round activity. She also solicited the expertise of those in the medical field to conduct medical mission not only for students but parents as well.
Preparations for teachers in honing their teaching skills will also take place next week according to Dona-al. They will be oriented on School Program Excellent Endeavor Development (SPEED), and Department of Education initiatives such as Competency-Based Performance Appraisal System for Teachers (CBPATH), Experiential Learning Courses, and instructional supervision tools.
