Baguio City (29 May) -- The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announces that El Nino Phenomenon is on its weakening phase until the mid-part of the year.
PAGASA Chief Meteorologist Officer Salvador Olinares said this is based on El Nino Advisory No. 9 issued by their Central Office stating that the onset of the rainy season associated with the southwest monsoon is expected to be slightly delayed.
According to Olinares, they are still awaiting advisory on the onset of rainy season with the intermittent rains already being experienced. He said there are set of guidelines or criteria being followed in determining its onset based on the measurement of the amount of monitored rainfall gathered from the various stations.
Olinares explained that in Baguio and Benguet, rain showers and thunderstorms are normally expected any day due to their geographical location.
National PAGASA Director Prisco Nilo revealed in a press release over Philippine Star last week the probability of the La Nina phenomenon which rose to 35 percent which may occur third quarter of the year.
Olinares encouraged the continuous preparation for any weather disturbances especially during the peak of rainy season normally occurring during the months of July to September. (PIA) [top]
