OWWA to conduct free medical/dental mission in Tuba

Baguio City (29 May) -- On June 7, the country will once again be commemorating the 7th National Migrants Day Celebration with the theme, "OFWs: Tagumpay sa Hamon ng Panahon, Kaagapay sa Pagsulong".

Locally, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office (OWWA-CAR), in partnership with some national government line-agencies, local government units and Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) family circles lined-up series of activities.

To kick-off the event, OWWA, in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Police Regional Office - Cordillera (PRO-Cor), Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), in coordination with the Provincial Government of Benguet and Tuba Local government unit, will conduct of a free medical and dental mission in San Pascual Tuba, Benguet on June 4 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

According to Overseas Worker Welfare Officer III, Dinah Ponciano, the activity will include free tooth extraction, medical check-up, medicine and an information, education and communication (IEC) on reproductive health.

In addition OWWA, together with the different OFW organizations, will also spearhead a tree-planting activity on June 5 at a vacant lot fronting the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Building along Kisad Road, Baguio City.

For the Migrants Day celebration on June 7, OWWA together with its partner government line-agencies, LGUs, private organizations and OFCs will have a parade at 9:00AM from the Baguio Convention Center up to SM City Baguio for the main program at 10:00 AM.

Highlighting the program will be the recognition and awarding of outstanding OFWs and OFW Family Circles (OFCs) in the region. During the program, parlor games, cultural presentation, entertainment, government service booths, raffles and door prizes await the participating OFWs and their families.

The national celebration of Migrants Workers Day is by virtue of Republic Act No. 8042, otherwise known as the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act of 1995, which aims to institute the policies of overseas employment and establish a higher standard of protection and promotion of the welfare of migrant workers, their families and overseas Filipinos in distress, and for other purposes.
