by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (31 May) -- No fees shall be collected from school children enrolling in pre-school up to Grade 4 during the enrolment period and at any time during the school year.

Schools Division Superintendent Cherry Mae L. Limbaco of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Iligan City said they encourage parents to enroll their children in public schools as we strictly observe policies provided for in DepEd Order No. 65, series of 2010, pursuant to the Constitutional mandate on the provision of free public education at the elementary and secondary levels, an urgent need to remove financial and non-financial obstacles to the smooth enrolment process and continued schooling of school children.

Limbaco added contribution maybe collected from Grade 5 to High School starting the second month of every school year but on a voluntary basis on the following: P50.00 per learner for BSP/GSP (Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts of the Philippines) membership; P5.00 for Anti-Tuberculosis (TB) fund; and P60.00 and 90.00 for school publication for elementary and secondary students, respectively.

Collection of Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) fee shall be determined by the Board of Directors. Likewise, fees for membership in Student Organization shall be based on existing school policies, said Limbaco.

Meanwhile, the wearing of school uniform shall not be required in public schools. Students with existing uniforms may continue using these uniforms, if they so desire, in order to avoid incurring additional costs for new attire.

Also, identification cards (ID) shall be provided to students at no cost on their part. The school administration shall fund these from its Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).

Classes will definitely start on June 15, 2010, the first day of school for Calendar Year (CY) 2010-2011, disclosed Limbaco. (PIA LDN) [top]
