Panabo City Brigada Eskwela kicks off

Davao City (31 May) -- The Department of Education, Panabo City Division in cooperation with the Local Government of Panabo headed by Mayor Jose L. Silvosa, Sr. together with various sectors of society kicked off the nationwide annual "Brigada Skwela" program last May 24 at Panabo Central Elementary School.

The Brigada Eskwela is a schools maintenance program nationwide that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that all public schools are ready in time for school opening.

It is an event where communities, parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations and private individuals including teacher and student volunteers to devote their time and skills to do repairs and maintenance work in public schools.

Dr. Josephine Fadul, Panabo DepEd Division Superintended, said that the brigada skwela aims to pool stakeholders in education and their resources to help DepED and the teachers prepare the schools so that regular classes will be done when the students return to school on June 15, 2010.

During the Brigada Eskwela week, parents, teachers and pupils undertake the task of preparing the school in time for the start of classes in June. Minor maintenance work such as the repainting of the roof and exterior walls, repair of leaking water pipes, ceiling boards, broken furniture and windows are among others.
