CdeO arnis team shines in 2 tourneys

Cagayan de Oro City (1 June) -- The Cagayan de Oro City Arnis team bagged a total of five gold medals and two silver medals after showing an outstanding performance in two separate competitions held recently.

Pinweight Edward Salinas displayed his mastery and dominance over tough opponents when he copped two gold medals in Anyo solo individual full contact category during the Batang Arnis Tournament held at Robinson's Mall in Manila, according to Advance Scientific Skills Efficiency Training-Arnis (Asset) Training Director and Coach Leo Villegas.

Not to be outdone by Salinas' feat, compatriots Nico Bhara and Nina Cantal Tabor also brought pride and honor to city after snatching gold medal each in full contact extra lightweight and bantamweight divisions, respectively, Villegas added.

On the other hand, the other team members of the Cagayan de Oro City Arnis team, coached by veteran radio personality Joel Jacobo, also shone in the recent Arnis Invitational Tournament held in the municipality of Balingasag in Misamis Oriental.

The Asset-trained city's Arnis team took home one gold medal courtesy of extra lightweight Mary Grace Labandia and two silver medals delivered each by novice pinweight Sam Julles Cantal and novice lightweight Kleb Dale Bayanas.

Arnis is one of the sports discipline supported by the City Government of Cagayan de Oro under the leadership of City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula thru the auspices of the grassroots-based Asset comprehensive development training program. (CIO) [top]
