Caraga PNP reports on shooting and hacking incident

Butuan City (2 June) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Caraga reported today on measures addressing peace and order concerns in the region.

Cases attended to included a shooting incident which occured on May 31, 2010 around 5:30 in the afternoon at Barangay Abad Santos, Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte, a shooting and hacking incident transpired during fiesta celebration at Barangay Abad Santos, Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte.

The victim identified as one Felix Sulapas, 22 years old, single, jobless and a resident of the same place.

Said incident was committed by unidentified suspect with the use of caliber.22 revolver hitting the upper portion of the victim's left leg.

According to the police report, suspect fled to unknown direction after the incident.

Another victim was identified as Edwin Estoque, 25 years old, single, jobless and a resident of Brgy San Miguel, San Isidro, Surigao del Norte which was hacked with the use of a sharp bolo hitting the back portion of the head.

The crime committed by unidentified suspect who immediately fled to unknown direction after the incident.

Victims was rushed to Siargao District Hospital in Dapa of the same province for medical treatment and in out of danger.

Investigation disclosed that it was found out that both victims were involved in a commotion between two groups of youth in the said place during the fiesta celebration of Barangay Abad Santos, Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte.

Santa Monica PNP is still conducting in depth investigation for possible identification of the suspects and filing of appropriate charges in court.

Report on grave threat and gun ban violation

Grave Threats in relation to Republic Act 7610 (Anti Child Abuse Law) transpired on May 31,2010 around 3:35 in the afternoon at Purok-2, Mauswagon, Brgy Pagatpatan, this city.

Personnel of Butuan City Police Station-2 together with the Brgy Tanod Wenceslao Mondejar apprehended a certain Romeo Durango, 48 years old, married, and a resident of Brgy Tabon-tabon, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.

The victim only identified as Robin (not real name), 12 years old minor, a resident of same place.

Investigation revealed that the suspect commit the violation by pointing a gun.38 caliber loaded with one live ammo.

The firearm used by the suspect was confiscated from his possession and for violation to COMELEC resolution number 8714.

Case is now being prepared for filing of appropriate charges against the suspect.

Report on NPA initiated atrocities

On May 31,2010 around 9:50 in the evening at Sitio Baclise, Brgy Angas, Sta Josefa, Agusan del Sur, composite Mobile Security of 26 Infantry Battalion (IB), 23 IB and CAFGU active auxiliary led by SSGT Ronie Parreņo encounter harassment and arson incident.

The troops were harassed by undetermined numbers of New Peoples Army (NPA) of Front Committee-3 SMRC resulting to a fire fight of more or less ten minutes and simultaneously burning of one unit EX120, 4BD Turbo Engine Hitachi Excavator (backhoe) owned by Markbilt construction that transpired at the vicinity of Purok 3-B, Brgy Angas, Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur.

Initial investigation revealed that after the burning fight the perpetrators fled to unknown direction.

Government troops conducting manhunt operation against the rebel.

Investigation further that the above-mentioned heavy equipment was totally damaged after being set ablaze by the perpetrators with an estimated damage of more or less One million pesos (P1,000.000.00).

Report on shooting incident

At around 9:50 in the morning of May 31, 2010 at the National Highway, Bag-ong Lungsod, Tandag, Surigao del Sur, one victim sustained a gunshot wound on his head which resulted to his instantaneous death, was shot by unidentified person using a caliber 45 pistol.

The victim was identified as Arjie Palma Gallardo, 27 years old, single and a resident of Purok Maligaya, Barangay Bag-ong Lungsod, Tandag, Surigao del Sur.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was driving a maroon Isuzu pick-up vehicle, dropped by a pet shop named "My Pet" to buy feeds when the said unidentified suspect appeared and shot the victim at close range.

The said suspect fled after the incident on board a motorcycle heading towards Purok Napo, of the above-mentioned place.

Personnel from Surigao del Sur Provincial Crime Laboratory Office led by Police Senior Inspector Karen Falcon Vertudazo conducted Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) and were able to recover from the crime scene one shell of caliber 45 pistol.

Elements of Tandag Police Station are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive of the incident and for possible identification and arrest of the suspect.

Vehicular accident (hit and run)

On May 30, 2010, vehicular accident transpired along the National Highway, Purok-4, Brgy Doņa Rosario, Tubay, Agusan del Norte.

Victims were identified as Marciano Obedencio, 49 years old and Joel Pintor both residents of E. Morgado, Santiago, Agusan del Norte.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victims were on their way to Santiago from Cabadbaran City riding in tandem on a single motorcycle when swerved by an unidentified Cargo Elf truck traveling towards the same direction.

Elements of Tubay Municipal Police Station immediately responded to the said incident and brought the victims to Cabadbaran Emergency Hospital for medical treatment.

The victims suffered serious physical injuries and bone fractures.

Elements of Tubay Municipal Police Station conducted thorough investigation for possible identification and apprehension of the suspect. (PNP 13/PIA-Caraga) [top]
