Journalists urged to join "Population, Development Media" awards

Dumaguete City (2 June) -- Journalists nationwide are encouraged to join in the 6th Population and Development Media Awards this year which is open for all print, broadcast, online, photo and citizen journalists.
Entries must stress the importance of the Millennium Development Goals and reproductive health as electoral issues that must be put in the public agenda in line with the approaching MDG deadline in 2015.
Entries should deal with the following population and development issues: MDGs, public health (especially reproductive health), reproductive health policy and governance, economic growth and poverty, climate change, housing and urban development and sustainable development.
Other issues that also may be tackled in the entries are environment, education, gender, maternal health, adolescent reproductive health, family planning, food security, reproductive rights, migration and population ageing.
Entries should have been published, aired, or posted between September 16, 2009 and August 15, 2010 in a publication (print or online) or broadcast network (TV or radio) that has been in existence for at least one year.
Materials using local dialects must be accompanied with a translation of the text in Filipino or English.
Interested parties may send as many entries in a chosen category.
Only entries that comply with these rules and regulations shall qualify for the final judging.
The Philippine Legislators? Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc. (PLCPD) have the right to use the winning entries in information dissemination or education campaigns with due credit given to the entries used.
Entries must be submitted to the PLCPD Secretariat together with a duly accomplished entry form (downloadable from www.plcpd.org.ph) not later than August 31, 2010.
Awards will be given in four categories, namely Best News Reportage, Best Opinion or Editorial Piece, Best Investigative Report and Best Feature or Magazine Article for Print and and Online Category; Best TV Documentary and Best TV Magazine Program or Talk Show for TV; Best Radio Program ? News, Commentary or Special Production of Media Agencies for Radio; Best Single Photo and Best Photo Essay for Photojournalism; and Citation for Blog, Citation for Single Photo Blog and Citation for Photo Album Blog under Special Categories.
Winners in the major categories (print and online, TV, radio, and photojournalism) shall receive the following: cash prized from Philippine business sector donors, trophy, plaque and a study trip to one project area of PLCPD in the Philippines.
On the other hand, winners in special categories shall receive plaques and will be entitled to join in the study trip.
