5 DOST consortia set plans, strategies for S&T efforts in Region 12
Koronadal City (4 June) -- Five consortia under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology 12 (DOST 12) convened at EMR Center, Koronadal City Wednesday to lay down plans and strategies for important S & T research and development efforts in the region.
Representatives of agencies and institutions to the five consortia met here for a one-day planning -workshop to review accomplishments and set strategies to further strengthen the science, technology innovations generation and dissemination of DOST 12 and its partner-agencies/institutions.
The consortia include Cotabato Region Industry and Energy Research and Development Consortium (CRIERDC-12), Health Research and Development Consortium of Region 12 (HRDC-12), Region 12 Consotium of Analytical Laboratories (LabCon-12) Regional Information Technology and E-Commerce Committee (RITECC-12), and Region 12 Nutrition Communication Network (Nutricomnet-12).
DOST 12 Regional Director Dr. Hadja Sittie Shayma Zenaida P. Hadji Raof-Laidan said, the meeting of the regional technical working groups is an opportunity to discuss plans, updates, and issues affecting the consortia.
"This meeting of the consortia strengthens the implementation of the developmental undertakings of DOST-12 and its partner-agencies and institutions and integrate endeavors of each agency for the betterment of the Region," director Laidan said.
She added, the meeting will maximize the utilization of meager resources, foster greater awareness of the value of innovation among member agencies, and stimulate public demand for technological innovations through collaborative efforts by the member-agencies.
CRIERDC-12 is undertaking assessment of the research and development (R & D) capabilities of the personnel and facilities of the member-agencies.
The consortium is also calling for the submission of research proposals for funding.
Among the S&T priorities the consortium is considering involves development of technologies on halal chevon processing and development of halal products such processed meat, milk, soap and others.
Plans for a region-wide forum on climate change to be held in July are also being finalized.
Meanwhile, HRDC 12 TWG decided to give priority on researches on herbal medicines, including processing of herbal medicines under halal standards.
It has also scheduled a meeting to formulate the consortium?s three-year R&D plan on July 1.
Within this year, RITECC 12 will conduct a seminar-workshop on packaging and labeling using Abode Photoshop and Illustrator to help entrepreneurs improve product presentation.
It is also designing of a website that will exclusively feature technologies and innovations generated in the region.
Labcon 12, on the other hand, plans to conduct three seminar-workshops for laboratory personnel and operators in the region before the year ends to help them prepare for ISO accreditation.
Nutricomnet 12 finalized the draft memorandum of agreement between member-agencies and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) for an inter-agency coordinated dissemination of information and innovation through tri-media. (DE Doguiles/PIA 12) [top]
