Zamboanga Norte towns get freezers from DA
Dipolog City (4 June) -- Two towns of Zamboanga del Norte have recently received "Quick Liquid Freeze" machines from the Department of Agriculture (DA), according to provincial agriculturist Maybel Bustaliņo.
Bustaliņo said these freezers would be used in making ice to preserve fish and other marine products to ensure they remain fresh when transported to the markets all over Mindanao and in the Visayas.
Ice supply has always been a problem of local fish traders as there is only one ice plant operating in the area. Others have to go to Ozamis City, some 300 kilometers from here, just to get ice.
The freezers donated by DA to Katipunan and Sindangan towns would now partly solve the problem of ice supply for fishermen and fish traders in the province.
With the "Strong Republic Nautical Highway" at Pulauan Port in Dapitan City, fish and other marine products from the province are now being brought and sold to other parts of the country.
Pulauan port serves as the main gateway to the markets in Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
