DepEd, partners to ensure smooth school opening in June

by Vency D. Bulayungan

Lagawe, Ifugao (4 June) -- The Department of Education here calls on its partners in the government and private sector to ensure an orderly and hitch-free opening of classes on June 15.

Education Division Superintendent Estela Carino said that this is to ensure that basic utilities and services are available in all public schools here.

"Ensuring a good educational environment for the young ones is the best gift we can give to them. That is why we ask the assistance and support of the parents, officials and other stakeholders to help the department attain this goal," she added.

In a radio interview, Carino noted the low participation rate saying that one of the reasons why there is a decrease is that some pupils will drop from school during the school year. For the secondary level, the absence of a dormitory or the high cost of boarding houses are some reasons why some high school students quit going to school.

With the implementation of the Brigade Eskwela, assistance of the stakeholders will not only focus on the safety of students and ensuring that students are properly enrolled but also seeing to it that all pupils will be able to attend school the whole year round," Carino stressed. The program also creates awareness on how the whole community can help in bringing all school-aged children to school.

"We encourage parents to follow up their children and not to rely on the teachers alone," Carino appealed.

"Because of the strong partnership among our convergence partners and other education stakeholders, our common goal to make education accessible to all is within reach," Carino said. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
