NSO Maguindanao seeks public support
Cotabato City (4 June) -- The National Statistics Office of Maguindanao is appealing to the public to extend support to the on-going census of Housing and Population in the province as well as in the city of Cotabato.
Through the NSO-Maguindanao Provincial Director Datu Razulden A. Mangelen, MPA, the said Office is asking the residents of the city and Maguindanao to extend certain degree of courtesy by allowing the census enumerators to gather pertiment data on household, such as, names of the family heads and family members, religion affiliation, appliances, occupation, highest level of educational attainment, among others.
Do they have permanent dwellings? Do they have good source of potable water? Are they enjoying electricity? Do they have good toilet facilities? These are just some of the questions being asked by the enumerators who are conducting census in the aformentioned areas.
The census of Housing and Population nationwide formally commenced last May 17 and will wind up June 11, 2010. Mangelen calls on local government officials of both LGUs to also extend necessary support to NSO-Maguindanao by safeguarding the welfare of the enumerators.
According to him, one of the major objectives of the census is to gather data on household and population for future use of policymakers aside from being one of the justifications to increase the internal revenue allolment (IRA) of the areas and the basis for Cotabato City to seek a separate congressional district if the city?s population so warrant.
"Alam po ninyo may pangyayaring hindi inaasahan, tulad ng minsan ay muntik ng makagat ng aso ang ilang sa aming mga enumerators, "Mangelen said. "Kaya hindi po biro ang kasalukuyang nararanasan ng aming mga enumerators," added Mangelen.
"All concerned can expect credible and accurate data gathered by our enumerators and their supervisors because, Mangelen said, they underwent enough training for the said undertaking." (Rey Dayaan-PIA) [top]
