San Fernando City, La Union (11 June) -- The Philippine National Police?s (PNP) updated and enhanced plan of action on disaster preparedness and response management in support to other concerned agencies, tagged as "Oplan Saklolo" is one good reason that keeps the personnel of Police Regional Office 1 busy at this time, as part of their rainy season preparations.
Police Superintendent Raul S. Romero, PRO1?s Public Information Officer said in an interview recently at the "Ammuentayo" radio program that "Oplan Saklolo" has always been a pet project of the PNP especially because they have seen the worst effects brought about by typhoons, particularly on the onslaught of typhoon "Pepeng" which badly hit the region last year.
Thus, PRO1 has made much earlier preparations to avoid mal degree of incidents to happen again this year.
Romero said that the PNP nationwide have activated their Disaster Response Plan ahead of time to give all units an ample time for the preparation of their Search and Rescue Operations (SARO) equipments, at the same time provide more trainings for concerned personnel particularly the Regional Public Safety Management Batallion (RPSMB) for future missions.
Too many lessons have been learned from the past havoc and we really are caught unarmed. Even the spot areas have been varying, some other areas now are worst affected than the usual recorded flood-prone barangays and municipalities.
The PNP-RO1 Regional Director Constante D. Azares Jr., as empowered by the Letter Of Instruction "Saklolo" and being the chairman of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) ensures readiness among all units / command of jurisdiction to effectively address all kinds of future calamities and disasters, Romero added.
