Surigao del Sur to celebrate golden anniversary on June 19

Tandag City (17 June) -- 50 years had passed when the Province of Surigao del Sur was separated from its mother province of Surigao del Norte by virtue of RA 2786.

This year's theme: "Surigao del Sur? 5oth year celebration of rich and diverse heritage", caters various developments of the present administration as it speaks out more on how this province transformed from a poor province before.

The Grand opening of the Agri-Trade Fair on Thursday, June 17 will highlight the celebration, joined by the 2 cities and 17 municipalities of the province, including the private sectors and stakeholders.

Provincial Agriculturist Marc Quico revealed earlier that all 19 Local Government Units (LGUs) will join the contest to exhibit their products in the Agri-Trade fair. The winners will receive the following prizes: 1st ? P50,000.00; second- P40,000.00; third- P30,000.00 and P20,000 as consolation prizes for non-winners.

The One Stop Shop will also be opened on that same day at the Capitol Lobby that offers the following services: Processing of NBI Clearance, Job Fair and Passport processing on June 18 until June 20.

In the afternoon, an opening Parade will be conducted that will start at Tandag Town Plaza and will go around the thoroughfares of this city going to Gregorio P. Murillo Sports Center where the Opening Program will be held.

On June 18, Sportsfest will continue while the Mutya ng Surigao del Sur will be staged at Tandag City Gymnasium in the evening participated by municipalities and cities from the South to North of this province with some stakeholders.

Meanwhile, a thanksgiving mass at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral followed by the "Kinilaw Festival" is set at the provincial Capitol Grounds where the Agri-Trade Fair Booths are situated joined by municipalities and cities situated along the coastal areas of the province.

On its finale, the culmination and awarding of prizes to the winners of the Sportsfest at the GPM Sports Center will be held followed by the fellowship/Socials in the evening to be conducted at the front of the provincial Seminar House to be participated by the Provincial Government Officials (PGO) headed by Gov. Vicente T. Pimentel and Newly Elect Gov. Johnny Pimentel, PGO Employees, LGU Officials, National Line Agencies, Non Government Organizations and Stakeholders. (PIA Surigao del Sur) [top]
