Maguindanao solon to continue pushing tourism agenda

by Moner C. Dayaan

Cotabato City (18 June) -- Being a staunch leader in the promotion of tourism not only here but in Central Mindanao as well, Maguindanao First District Congresswoman Bai Sandra Sema vow to include in her agenda of administration the development of tourism industry.

Sema told Philippine Information Agency-Cotabato City Office recently that she being the City Tourism Council chair and president of Region XII Tourism Council, tourism promotion from the regiomal level down to the grassroots has been her advocacy not only in the past but up to the present.

"This is my way of introducing and promoting certain municipalities, cities and other places, big and historical events. People will understand what we have here in the city, the rich culture of the city and other parts of Central Mindanao." There is no issue of I forgetting the promotion of tourism because as I said earlier this has been part of my way of life," Sema pointed out.

More educational benefits for poor but deserving students is likewise lined up as one of Sema"s administration priorities. Right now, she added, "I am contemplating to set-up a state university in my district so that children of poor families would be able to study at a lesser burden to their parents. Although, scholarships granted to some selected students have helped in the attainment of quality education said scholarships are very limited,Sema said..

Sema disclosed that with the increasing number of population in the city, stiff competition in the acquisition of scholarships among deserving students is rigid not to mention the limited number of scholarship grants that are commonly given by politician-benefactor to favored ones.

"Mas gusto kong magcreate ng isang ?state university? in my area of responsibility so that many poor but deserving students can be educated and uplift their well-being," Sema said.

Asked how prepared the city and the tourism council which she heads in the forthcoming June 20 "ARAW NG KUTABATO",Sema said, a traditional activities like, flauvial parade, trade exhibit, selection of "2010 Mutya ng Kutabato", street dancing, cultural presentation, INAOL festival and many more are just some of the highlights of the said "Araw ng Kutabato".

In the same interview, she reiterated her heartfelt thanks to those who supported her candidacy during the May 10, 2010 local election which eventually gave her the opportunity to serve her constituents. (PIA) [top]
