Comval holds simultaneous earthquake drills

by R. Manugas

Compostela Valley (18 June) -- The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council in partnership with Red Cross Comval Chapter spearhead simultaneous earthquake drill last June 18, 2010 in all private and public schools and government offices. This aims to equip Comvaleņos with all the necessary things "to do and not to do" when there is an earthquake.

National line agencies/offices also join the drill to see to it that they will be ready whenever an earthquake strikes in their area.

For one, the personnel of DANECO Montevista Office were able to experience how and what to do when an earthquake happen while they are in the office. During the drill, three of the drill participants were tasked to act as casualties whereby Red Cross responders brought them to Compostela Valley District Hospital in Montevista for immediate medical attention. The Hospital personnel, likewise, were uninformed of the drill but still responded correctly and immediately.

The drill is very helpful, making it very successful because calamities like the earthquake happens in the province. This is why Governor Arturo T. Uy's vision is to conduct series of information and education campaign on how to respond to different kinds of calamities/emergencies. PDCC Coordinator Raul P. Villocino says the result is very overwhelming. Hospital attendants perform and accommodate the assigned casualties accordingly. Estimated participants of the simultaneous earthquake drill is seventy thousand more or less. (IDS Comval) [top]
