Environmental awareness and clean up drive set in Silay City

Bacolod City (18 June) -- "Taklas-Dagnas sa Patag" an environmental awareness, interaction and clean-up drive of the North Negros Forect Reserve in Brgy. Patag, Silay City started last June 17 to 20.

This is being facilitated by the Silay City government through the Tourism division in coordination with the environment groups in Negros.

There was no registration fee for the participants but accommodation was on first come-first served basis.

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano said the welcome dinner and band concert was hosted by the Silay City Outdoor Recreation and Ecotourism Area in Brgy. Patag.

Participants of the activities were the Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, Butlag Banaag Mountaineering Society, Green Alert, Negros Mountaineering Club Inc., Negros Youth for the Environment, Earth Day Covenor, Earth Guards, SDMC-Dumaguete, YES-O (Silay), Dagyaw, Timawa, Youth for Progress, Red Cross Youth, MASS, SPYOCC, and Silay United Group of Artists.

Areas covered by the clean-up drive are Cuyong, Tinagong Dagat and Sulfatara.

At the end of 4-day trek, general evaluation was conducted and certificates of participation were given to the participants. (PIO/PIA/cad) [top]
