Cordillera RDC expresses gratitude to PGMA

Baguio City (19 June) -- The Regional Development Council has recently passed a resolution expressing gratitude to out going President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the support and commitment her administration has extended to the Cordillera region.

RDC Resolution No. CAR-024 states that it was during the term of Pres. Arroyo that CAR has gained significant presidential attention and intervention in general socio-economic and infrastructure development.

Most significant of these developments are the road networks which significantly cut travel time and made travel safer and more convenient. Under the SONA projects are the rehabilitation of the Halsema Highway from Mt. Data to Bontoc all the way to Banaue, Ifugao and the Bontoc- Lubuagan-Tabuk Road.

Another major road project is the Baguio-Aritao- Road. Also undergoing rehabilitation are the Abatan- ?Cervantes and Sabangan- Cervates roads which are vital links to the Ilocos Region.

The Benguet cold storage, the construction of numerous farm to market roads and the construction of several irrigation projects in the region are also accomplished as SONA projects.

The quest for autonomy in the Cordillera was also supported by Pres. Arroyo with a total budget of P48 million since 2006 for social preparation for regional autonomy. The amount was earmarked for Information, education and communication(IEC), capability building programs of prospective autonomy implementers and program coordination.

The resolution also stated the implementation of various poverty alleviation programs which benefitted 79,950 marginalized poor in the region.

The RDC plans to present the resolution to Pres. Arroyo in a "pasasalamat" ceremony in Malacanang next week.

The outgoing President, as a staunch ally of the Cordillera, will also be conferred the title of "In-inan di Kordilyera" during said event. (PIA) [top]
