Isabela City, Basilan (21 June) -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of the Department of Labor and Employment-Region IX is set to conduct the second round of wage hike public hearing on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in Isabela City, Basilan.
The conduct of public hearing was in response to the petition for Wage Adjustment filed by the Philippine Integrated Industries Labor Union (PIILU-TUCP) based in Zamboanga City through its Executive Secretary Rey Anthony D. Trio last December 1, 2009.
The said group was seeking for the P50.00 daily wage increase and the integration of P15.00 COLA (Cost-of-living Allowance) in the private sectors.
Regional Board Chairman Ponciano M. Ligutom said, as prescribed by existing rules, public hearings shall thereupon be conducted in each province in the region, as far as practicable, in a manner that shall ensure that all sectors and parties who stand to be directly affected by the action of the Board are given the widest opportunity to be heard prior to the determination as to whether a wage order should be issued.
DOLE is inviting all sectors concerned to attend the public hearing in Isabela City with the end in view of establishing the minimum wage rates that shall be as nearly adequate as is economically feasible to maintain the minimum standards of living necessary for the health, efficiency and general well-being of the workers within the framework of national economic and social development goals.
Tomorrow's public hearing will be held at JJ Twin's Pavillion in Isabela City at 9:00 in the morning. The Isabela City public hearing is the last leg of RTWPB-IX?s consultations in the region. Public hearings were held in Pagadian City (April 20), Zamboanga City (April 23), Dipolog City (June 17), and Zamboanga Sibugay (June 18). (PIA9-BST) [top]
