ABK 2 to launch book drive
Iloilo City (21 June) -- The ABK 2 Initiative will be launching a book drive dubbed "Libro Mo, Buas Damlag Ko" (Your Book, My Future), on July 17 and will last until October 30, 2010.
The ABK 2 Initiative is Pag-Aaral ng Bata para sa Kinabukasan, a four-year project which aims to contribute to the sustainable reduction of exploitative child labor in the Philippines.
ABK 2 Initiative Project Director Daphne G. Culanag said "Libro Mo, Buasdamlag Ko" is in support to its Catch-up Program which includes reading remediation, storytelling sessions, with partner schools and communities.
Culanag said this initiative aims to develop positive attitude towards learning among children, especially child laborers.
She said the launching of the book drive in Iloilo City is intended to gather books for the Learning Resource Center of their partners, where people can gather for educational activities, like tutorial programs, simple reading sessions or story telling sessions.
This initiative is jointly undertaken by World Vision Development Foundation, ChildFund Philippines and Educational Research and Development assistance Foundation, for their assisted areas in Iloilo, namely, the towns of Ajuy, Duenas, Estancia, San Enrique and Iloilo City. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
