New houses, hope for Uswag-GK beneficiaries in Monkayo, New Bataan

Davao City (21 June) -- True to his word, Compostela Valley Gov. Arturo Uy inspired municipal officials in advocating to have a similar Uswag-Gawad Kalinga sites for every municipality in the province. With the new houses in place, the Kapitbahayan (beneficiaries) finally received their much-longed decent shelters that they can call their own.
On June 15, the 48 families happily join in the mass, ceremonial turn-over and blessing of the houses at the Bansilaw-Gawad Kalinga Village at Sitio Liboton, Poblacion Monkayo.
The donors and the builders were also commended and given their certificates of appreciation. Aside from the houses, the Kapitbahayan also received Love gifts composed of food commodities such as rice, coffee, sugar and canned goods.
"Daku ang among pasalamat ug amo kining isaad kaninyo nga mahimo kaming ehemplo ug mauswagun nga kumonidad. Maningkamut mi nga ang inyong pagtabang dili mapakyas," (We are very grateful and we promised to be a good example and a progressive community. We'll make sure that your help will not be gone for naught), said Uswag-Bansilaw Kapitbahayan President Rolly Panit.
Monkayo Mayor Manuel Brillantes Jr. also expressed his gratitude for the generous donors and volunteers who made the undertaking possible. In fact, the Monkayo GK site is one of the best GK villages which has a picturesque view with its colorful houses perched atop the hilly terrain.
In New Bataan, Mayor Lorenzo Balbin Jr. also spearheaded the ceremonial turn-over of the 20 houses at the Pag-asa't Bagong Buhay-Uswag-GK Village to the Kapitbahayan families. This was in time for their 42nd founding anniversary last June 18.
In his keynote speech, GK Coordinator for Southern Mindanao Rene Rieta, gave his challenge to be a part of the GK volunteerism. "Ang kailangan natin ay mga buhay na bayani at kayo po yan," he said.
It can be recalled that the 4th and 5th USWAG-GK Bayani Challenge were held simultaneously last April 9-17, 2010 and concluded with a "Highway of Peace." HOPE is an annual national GK caravan event participated by the GK people and workers coming from the different, far-off places.
To date, a total of 272 colorful houses rise from within the 4 USWAG-GK sites in the province. These sites now serve as educational tour destinations mostly by other provinces and cities to see for themselves how GK works in Compostela Valley. (ids comval) [top]
