More industries to send scholars to MUST Jasaan campus

Cagayan de Oro City (21 June) -- More industries, through the efforts of the Parents, Faculty and Staff Association of MUST-Jasaan, will send scholars to Mindanao University of Science and Technology this first semester of SY 2010-2011.

Engr. Ruel Salvador, director of MUST-Jasaan Campus confirmed that R. I. Chemical Corporation, and Philippine Iron Construction and Marine Works have reserved one and two slots respectively, in addition to Pilipinas KAO's 12 slots every school year (three for every year level) earlier. Still more industries are invited to send their scholars, to include STEAG and CEPALCO, the director added.

As of press time, the selection committee is still working on choosing the right student candidates to fill in the slots. The criteria are: Jasaan residency, high school GPA, rating during entrance exam, result of interview and family Income.

R. I Chemical Corporation, and Philippine Iron Construction and Marine Works prefer the students to take up BS Electrical Technology and Management, and BS Auto-Mechanical Technology. These are the technological courses they prioritize when hiring employees.

Per Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed, they will provide full scholarship grants that pay for all university fees, plus P1,000 books and tools allowance per semester. Renewable every semester, the scholarship starts from first to fourth year in college. Grantees are expected to do their best so they graduate and help their families.

The scholarships were negotiated by the PFSA officers and the MUST-Jasaan campus director from April 5 to 28, 2010. The grant was made as part of the two companies' community social responsibility (CSR) program for the Jasaan community. Two managers from the companies were Rotary members like the campus director who acts as their current secretary.

The two companies are located in Jasaan, and are sister companies owned by the Carlos family related to the wife of former MMDA chairman and vice presidential candidate Bayani Fernando. (MSMMM) [top]
