Manila (25 June) -- The Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation feted President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday (June 24) with a plaque of recognition for her "tremendous leadership, visionary and progressive ability in leading the nation to progress as a member of both the Executive and Legislative Branches of government."

The plaque of recognition was read and presented to the President by Atty. Hermogenes P. Pobre, publisher and president of the Bulletin while a big trophy was handed to her by Bulletin Chairman Don Emilio Yap, who hosted the testimonial lunch in her honor.

"For your record setting achievements, first as Senator, Vice President , President and now as a member of the House of Representatives; for conceptualizing and implementing the 10-point agenda called BEAT THE ODDS that jumpstarted the country's growth and set it on the road towards far-reaching and unsurpassed sustainable and equitable progress," Pobre said.

"For restoring the Philippines' fiscal health and steering the country through the global downturns, improving income and spending balance and manageable inflation rate.

"For the Super Regions which spread development and the unprecedented growth in infrastructure across a larger area through economies of scale, synergies and complementation and the Strong Republic Nautical Highway that linked the islands and reduced travel time and cargo charges.

"For recognizing the role of the media in your nine years of nation-building and safeguarding the freedom of the press in the pursuit of the journalistic profession," Pobre said.

Finally, "we salute you for your 18 years of sterling achievements to nation-building and wish you success and all the best in your future endeavors," Pobre added. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
