PGMA visits Cebu one last time June 28 as RP President
Arroyo to administer oath to local officials, inaugurate infra projects
Cebu City (27 June) -- Two days before she turns over the rein to President-elect Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" C. Aquino III, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in her apparent last visit to Cebu tomorrow (Monday), June 28, shows her gratitude to the overwhelming support the Cebuanos gave her administration by administering the oath of office of newly-elected local officials and inaugurating projects largely funded by her government.
From Ubay, Bohol where Pres. Arroyo will lead the unveiling of the Ubay Port Project marker to signal its formal inauguration, Mrs. Arroyo will fly to Cebu via chopper around 12:30 noon and is expected to be at the Macapagal-Gullas Port in Tanke, Talisay City around 1:15 p.m. for her first event in Cebu.
President Arroyo will lead the ribbon cutting together with Cebu 1st Dist. Rep. Eduardo Gullas to officially inaugurate the port project.
The P136.4M Macapagal-Gullas Port consists of a fish port that houses an ice plant and ice storage, administration building and public toilet and a port with rock causeway and slope revetment structures.
Funding for the project came from various sources such as the Cebu Ports Authority, Dept. of Transportation & Communications, PFDA, Cebu Provincial Government, Talisay City Local Government Unit among others.
Phase 2 of the port project which is the construction of the rock causeway amounting to P110M will still be implemented.
Rep. Gullas will brief the President on the port project and its impact to the livelihood of fishermen and the local economy of his city among other general gains to be derived from the port's operations.
Pres. Arroyo will then administer the oath taking of Gullas as a re-elected congressman of his district.
From Talisay City, the President will motor to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Mandaue City for the oath-taking ceremony of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and other Cebu congressmen namely the governor's father Rep. Pablo Garcia of the 2nd District and brother Rep. Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd District. Also to be sworrn to office by the President are Rep. Benhur Salimbangon of the 4th District and Rep. Luigi Quisumbing of the 6th District.
The CICC event scheduled at 2:15 p.m. will also witness the tribute to Pres. Arroyo prepared in an audio-visual presentation by the Cebu Provincial Government.
An estimated crowd of 1,000 is expected to be at this event as Gov. Garcia will administer the oath of office to the newly-elected provincial board members, mayors, vice-mayors and councilors of the different towns in Cebu.
From the CICC, Mrs. Arroyo will proceed to Danao City for her last event set at 3:30 p.m. where she leads the ribbon cutting to formally inaugurate the President Diosdado Macapagal Park and Boardwalk.
On hand to receive the President at the area are Danao City Mayor ramon "Nito" Durano III, 5th Dist. Rep. Ramon "Red" Durano VI, Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon "Boy" Durano Jr. and Tourism Sec. Joseph Ace Durano.
The development of the Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Park and Boardwalk is being undertaken by the Danao City Government. The park is situated on reclaimed area funded by the President's Social Fund (PSF) while funding for the vertical structures and pavement area were sourced from local funds.
The development cost of the reclaimed area funded by the PSF is P24.17 M.
The park and boardwalk started on October 26, 2009 and undertaken in two phases with Phase 1 completed in May 30, this year while target completion date of Phase II is set on November 16, 2010.
An estimated more than 800 crowd will gather to witness the President's event in this northern city.
From Danao City, Pres. Arroyo will motor to the Mactan International Airport in Lapulapu City for her departure back to Manila. (PIA-Cebu/FCR) [top]
