"Negros First!" battlecry raised by Gov. Maraņon
Bacolod City (28 June) -- Governor Alfredo Maraņon adopts a "Negros First" policy as his administration's cornerstone of governance during a weekend oathtaking ceremony, June 26, in front of the Provincial Capitol.
"The roadmap that will guide my administration is articulated in the two words of my party platform: Negros First," he said before an estimated crowd of more than 200.
The governor explained that the "Negros First" he envisions is anchored on the twin foundations of self-reliance and self-sufficiency: reliance on the capability of the people and self-sufficiency in the essential of life such as food, shelter and health care.
Maraņon stressed on team play in governance as the key to "Negros First" as his leadership strives to pursue his objectives for the good of the province.
He enjoined the participation of everyone in implementing the programs he will formulate and called every Negrenses as his "partners."
"You are not just the beneficiaries of provincial government programs. You are also partners of such programs. Without your full participation, as beneficiaries, as planners, implementors and evaluators, Negros First Cannot be a reality," he said.
Every city and towns will also be recognized and their participation essential.
"Each city, each municipality will be given the chance to participate in important events- from each place we will see it's very best," he added.
Finally, he appealed to the rebels to join hands with him in fighting poverty and put an end on the strife that only result to a divided Negros.
"I urge you. I appeal to you. Let us put an end to this aimless struggle and division. Let us channel our energies to work together to fight poverty, not each other. (PIA-LOL) [top]
