Local exec to propose San Mariano conversion into cityhood

San Mariano, Isabela (June 28) -- The local chief executive of this inner eastern Isabela town will propose to the next 15th Congress the conversion of the town into a city as necessary requirements for cityhood.
Mayor Edgar Go said over a local radio station in this province that the officialdom of San Mariano, Isabela upon the assumption to office of all elected officials will be submitting a resolution to Congress converting the municipality into a city through 2nd District Congressman-elect Ana Cristina Go.
Congressman Ana Cristina Go is the wife of the re-elected Mayor of this town. Mayor Go said the requirement for land area and income for cityhood of San Marinao town has already satisfied and they are only waiting for the result of the just-conducted census of population and housing as reference for population requirement for cityhood.
"The officials of San Mariano believe that soon this town will become the third city in Isabela? Mayor Go said.
The then Municipality of Santiago was the first municipality of the province that was converted into a city (independent-component city) followed by the then municipality of Cauayan now Cauayan City.
Mayor Go and local officials of this town are confident that their town will soon be converted as the third city of Isabela.
It is also recalled that the municipality of Ilagan has tried to convert the town into a city before but the people thumbs down the conversion into cityhood during a referendum conducted as a requirement for cityhood under the Local Government Code of 1991. (PIA Isabela) [top]
