EcoGov holds 3-day training on solid waste management plan formulation

Davao City (6 July) -- A three-day training planning for the formulation of 10-year Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Plan is now being conducted at the Feliz Resort, this city.
The training, which started yesterday (July 5), is the fourth in a series of the continuing capability-building to Davao Gulf LGUs under the auspices of the Philippine Environmental Governance 2 (EcoGov) Project which is funded by USAID and implemented with the cooperation of the DENR.
EcoGov provides technical assistance to the LGUs in the formulation of their integrated solid waste management plans which is mandated by the RA 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. EcoGov has been providing technical assistance to LGUs relative to planning the locality?s environment and resources.
The present training is focused on the engineering component of the ISWM plan of the beneficiary LGUs.
Evelyn Sagun, an urban environmental specialist of EcoGov, told participants of the training that the assistance is also geared towards the protection and preservation of key biodiversity areas (KBA) such as Davao Gulf.
Participating LGUs to this planning-workshop include Davao Oriental provincial LGU headed by Doy Samar, Sarx Lanos and Shid Valles; Mati City headed by CiENRO Ed Cobacha and Lupon MLGU; Davao del Sur PLGU, Hagonoy and Santa Cruz; Davao del Norte PLGU headed by Gerry Agustin, Dujali, Carmen, Kapalong and Talaingod; Compostela Valley PLGU headed by Rey Castardo, and Maco MLGU.
