LSPPO plans to organize own SWAT team

Islamic City of Marawi (6 September) -- Lanao del Sur Provincial Police Office Acting Director Police Superintendent Cosanie Derogongan said he is planning to organize a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team after Ramadhan.
In an interview with Radyo ng Bayan, Derogongan said that the Quirino Grandstand in Manila tragedy encouraged him the more to push for the organization of a SWAT team that will handle difficult police tasks such as a hostage situation that the province may encounter in the future.
Derogongan said he has already requested their National Headquarters about this and he is still waiting for their reply.
Although he admits that the training for SWAT entails a big budget, Derogongan stressed that he does not want to be caught off guard when a hostage situation happens in Lanao del Sur or in Marawi City.
Unlike the provincial government of Cebu that is considering the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Los Angeles and New York Police Departments to train their police personnel, Derogongan said that the PNP has a well trained SWAT team at Camp Crame that can also train a select group of police officers in Lanao del Sur.
He said he is also confident that Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong, Jr. and Marawi City Mayor Sultan Fahad Salic, who are also frontline advocates for peace and development, will help in the acquisition of high tech gadgets such as bullet proof vests, gas masks, sophisticated and high powered firearms and night vision goggles for the SWAT team.
Derogongan hopes that the training for a SWAT team for Marawi City and Lanao del Sur will be realized soon. (PBS-DXSO Radyo ng Bayan Marawi) [top]
