DTI speeds up monitoring of hardware, construction supply establishments in Iligan

Iligan City (6 September) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in partnership with the Philippine Product Safety and Quality Foundation, Inc. (PPSQF), conducted a two-day on-the-spot monitoring of deformed steel bars and equal-leg angle bars in all hardware and construction supply, this city.

As a strong partner of DTI, the PPSQF is an active organization belonging to the steel maker industry in the Philippines, said Ruel B. Paclipan, provincial director, DTI lligan City/Lanao del Norte Provincial Office.

A total of 18 hardware and construction supply establishments were visited.

During the course of inspection, experts from the PPSQF engaged into identifying the logos embossed on the steel products while measurements on weight and length was also done to verify the veracity of the product in compliance to the law on product standard.

This move by the government is a confirmation that the law on product standards must be implemented and that the government is serious on its campaign to assure all consumers on product safety and quality, thus, getting true value for their hard earned money.

Also, PPSQF experts conducted an outright information and education campaign drive to all hardware owners who wish to learn further the proper way of identifying standard from sub-standard products, and using the metric system as a standard measurement for retail.

PPSQF is based in Manila and has been touring the entire country to assist in the conduct of product standards monitoring activity of the provinces and cities.

We will be pushing this activity until the end of this year, said Director Paclipan. (DTI lligan / PIA LDN) [top]
