BIR surpasses collection target
Trece Martires City (8 September) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue Revenue District Office (BIR RDO) No. 54A collected a cumulative total of more than Php 2.3 million for the period of January to July of this year, 36 percent higher than the take for the same period last year and 11 percent higher compared to collection goal for the same period.
In a press statement released by RDO No. 54A headed by Edgar B. Tolentino, the increased in tax collection is based on the tax awareness program of the Bureau in which the incumbent Commissioner has set the bar higher that every District should concentrate on serving the public and meeting the basic needs of taxpayers.
Tolentino explained that taxpayers always compare the service experienced in the past with the service provided presently.
He added, "Most of the challenges we are facing are similar to the ones we have already confronted. And of course, there is ample room for comparison." According to Tolentino, taxpayers need seamless services from the Bureau as they want (taxpayers) to complete their transaction with little hassle as possible.
He said the Bureau is also dealing with huge and diverse taxpayers where one size of service does not fit to service them.
"Young computer-literate taxpayers may prefer on-line, self service option, while older taxpayers and those with limited English proficiency may favor in-person assistance. We must always be open to new ideas while preserving what has worked best in the past. We must be willing to experiment and capable of reinventing ourselves as we seek progressive results," said Tolentino.
The District has also shifted on the often overlooked cockpit business as special team was formed to monitor all cockpits in his jurisdiction to ascertain compliance with existing rules and that correct amusement taxes are being remitted. (BIR RDO-54A/PIA-Cavite) [top]
