4ID troops find planted anti-tank landmine in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur
Cagayan De Oro City (8 September) -- Combat troops of the of 75th Infantry Battalion and 23rd Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division found a planted anti-personnel landmine along the trail of Mahanay, Greenfield, barangay Sta. Juana, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur last Sunday, September 5.
Lt. Col. Ruben C Agarcio, commanding officer of the 75th Infantry Battalion, said that the anti-personnel landmine, an improvised explosive device, was found by a combined force from 75th IB and 23rd IB.
The landmine was discovered during the perimeter patrol conducted by the troopers and it was allegedly planted by local New People's Army (NPA) terrorists along the trail in Tagbina area.
The said IED was composed of 68 sticks of dynamite worth of P40, 800 which is made of Superdyn explosive sealed in a plastic container (20 liters capacity).
4th Infantry Division spokesman Lt. Col. Triumph Dominic Bagaipo said that the recovered IED has a 1,000-meter radius blast effect which can drastically damage an M35 truck.
"The IED was intentionally buried along the trail to hurt our soldiers, however, these rebels are not really considering the lives and limbs of innocent civilians who usually travel along the way", said Bagaipo.
The anti-tank landmine was brought to the headquarters of the 75th IB in barangay Maharlika, Bislig City,SDS for safekeeping, he added.
Lt. Col. Bagaipo also said, "This is another proof that the local terrorists' violent deeds make many Filipino people suffer from atrocities." (4th CMO Bn, 4ID, PA/PIA-Caraga) [top]
