Catbalogan, Samar (14 September) -- The Mellinnium Challenge Account-Philippines (MCA-P) will be funding repair and rehabilitation of the badly-damaged Samar Roads under the Samar National Development Road Project.

Aculan added that the Mellinnium Challenge Account-Philippines is a project of the Unites States that will be funding three component projects that included the Samar road project.

Based on the website of the MCAP, the Philippines has received threshold assistance of some US$ 21 million since 2006.

It added that since the country has shown above-median performance in fighting corruption and on at least half of the indicators in three policy categories, namely, ruling justly, investing in people, and economic freedom, the Philippines was named eligible for compact assistance in March 11, 2008.

The two other projects that will be funded are Tax Reforms and Kalahi CIDSS. Fr Cesar said that the road stretch from Buray (Paranas, Samar) to Taft, Eastern Samar, some 64 kilometers and from Borongan, E. Samar to Guiuan, E. Samar are included in the project.

Aculan is a member of the Board of Trustees that will oversee the project.

The Board is composed of ten members from the national government agencies and three members from the civil society that included Aculan, chief of the Catholic Social Action Center in Calbayog City. (PIA-Samar) [top]
