Roxas City (14 September) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) in Capiz will sell a limited volume of regular milled and iron fortified rice (IFR) at P23.50 per kilogram in line with its 38th anniversary celebration from September 20 to 24.
"Each customer can buy a maximum of five kilograms," said NFA Capiz Public Information Officer Jose Davila, Jr.
He added that the anniversary offer will only be available at the NFA warehouse in Barangay Bolo here.
The celebration will also include a cooking demonstration and a taste test on IFR which slightly turns grayish when cooked but has more nutritional values because of the added iron.
The IFR is mandated under Republic Act 8976 to address the serious problem on Micronutrient Malnutrition. The micronutrients referred comprise of Vitamin A, Iron and Iodine.
Davila added that a simple program for the NFA ? Capiz employees has also been set on Sept. 24.
NFA started as National Grains Authority (NGA) through Presidential Decree (PD) No. 4 dated September 26, 1972 with the mission of promoting the integrated growth and development of the grains industry covering rice, corn, feed grains and other grains like sorghum, mongo, and peanut.
In 1981, PD No. 1770 reconstituted the NGA into what is now the NFA with a widened social responsibilities and commodity coverage. (PIA) [top]
