Western Visayas girds for Children's Month

Manila (15 September) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 6 will join the nationwide celebration of Children's Month with a series of activities focusing on environmental protection.
Mr. Eduardo Guevarra, focal person for children and youth of DSWD 6 said in a PIA interview that the activity is conducted yearly in the month of October, designed to stimulate the intellectual, physical and creative capacities of children in developing them to become responsible individuals.
Guevarra said that the DSWD will conduct on the last week of October a Regional Congress where children's protection, survival and development will be discussed, and the conduct of vocal solo and folk dance contests which will be participated in by three to five years old children who are enrolled at the Day Care Centers in Western Visayas.
Guevarra said that the pre-schoolers and their parents will also be engaged in environmental rehabilitation activity like tree planting.
He said that in other provinces of the region, activities like parade and play gound demonstrations, educational tour to historical places, and educating children on the lives of local heroes in their respective places, will also be highlighted.
Guevarra also said that there is a need for all sectors of the civil society to work together in creating a safe and supportive environment conducive to the development of children and young people to be creative, self-aware, resilient, critical, and responsible citizens of society.
