San Fernando City, La Union (15 September) -- Various regional and national-line agencies headed by the Civil Service Commission ? Regional Office 1(CSC-RO1) participated in Tuesday's (September 14) R.A.C.E. Mall Tour Opening held at the CSI City Mall, this city, as part of the Civil Service Month Celebration Activities.

R.A.C.E. which stands for Advancing Responsive, Accesible, Courteous and Effective public service or the government express at the mall as defined by the CSC aims to address the needed services due to the public especially those at the grassroots level and to the poorest of the poor.

The event is formally opened with the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon by the Guest Speaker - Provincial Board Member Francisco "Kit" Ortega - representing the Provincial Governor, and assisted by CSC-RO1 Regional Director Bienvenida L. Ragucos, together with Philippine Ports Authority ? La Union Port Manager Silverio D. Mangaoang and Commission on Population 1 Regional Director Oscar R. Mabalot.

With the opening of the Program, Engel N. Figuracion, Admin Assistant II of the CSC-RO1 presented the participating agencies and the kind of service they provide to the public.

CSC-RO1 Director Bienvenida L. Ragucos welcomed all the participating government agencies, the guests as well as the public for the formal opening of this two-day Mall Tour which seeks to provide and bring the Advance R.A.C.E. service closer to the people.

Ragucos said in her message that to bring R.A.C.E. in public service is to go "beyond our potentials and see what is truly needed in the government service."

"To be equally prepared, knowing what to do and how to finish it with the best way we can, because we are not just promoting our personal abilities but we are representing our agency/organization."

Ending her message, Director Ragucos quoted a line from Khalil Gibran, a Lebanese American philosopher/artist saying, "You give but little when you give your possession, it is only by giving yourself that you give more."

Provincial Board Member Francisco "Kit" Ortega being the Guest Speaker representing the governor was introduced by Marichu Y. Cuison, CSC-RO1 Chief Personnel Specialist.

In his speech, Ortega said that the City Government and Provincial Government of La Union are pushing on improving all the various services being rendered to the people particularly on environment, on health especially on addressing dengue problem, labor services, water services, and the like synchronizing with R.A.C.E.

In relation to the national issue on hostage crisis, the Governor, he said, has directed the law enforcement agencies to give an inventory of the trainings they have and the equipments they need so that the Provincial Government can provide assistance in any eventuality.

Lastly, he emphasized that in providing public service, awards received for recognition are not important, what's important is that the people feel the services given." (PIA-RO1/LU) [top]
