Pagadian City (15 September) -- Three communist terrorists were captured after a 20-minute gun battle in Zamboanga Sibugay on Monday, September 13, 2010.

A section of 53IB led by 2Lt Robin Quitoras while conducting combat operations at Sitio Tigpangi, Brgy Peņaranda, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province encountered about 10 terrorists from New People's Army (NPA).

The captured NPAs were identified as Elmar A Flores, Jenilyn F Flores and Ronel B Simacas. The military also recovered two Rifle Grenades, one bag Medical Kit with assorted medicine, subversive documents, assorted kitchen utensils, 13 sacks of palay (rice) and personal belongings.

These sacks of palay were believed to have been extorted from the local farmers of the said barangay.

Lt Col Emmanuel Magpayo, Commanding Officer, 53IB was thankful to the civilians who tipped off on the presence of the communist terrorists in their place that resulted to the said encounter.

A platoon of 10IB under 1Lt Franco Salvador Suelto seized an abandoned NPA camp in Brgy New Tampilisan, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province last September 12, 2010.

The camp can accommodate around 80 terrorists with lecture rooms and a training area. It was occupied from June 10 to August 13, 2010, according to the revelation of a former rebel, Ronald Esic @ Brix.

MGen Romeo Lustestica, Commander, 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, PA commended the troops of 53IB and 10IB for a job well done in capturing the said Communist terrorists and NPA camp. He enjoined the troops to maintain a good relationship with the people and be vigilant at all times against possible enemy retaliation and to always ensure that the basic human rights of the captured NPAs as well as civilians are respected.
