Chess festival to open in Tuguegarao

Tuguegarao City (15 September) -- The Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE) is set to conduct an Open Chess Festival on October 9-10, 2010 in cooperation with Compuserve Land Surveying and Development, here.
The tournament is open to all chess players including Grandmaster, International Master, FIDE Master, Woman FIDE Master, National Master, Woman National Master, Rated and Unrated. For Kiddies Category, it will be open to all kid chess players who were born on or after 1996 (14 years old and below).
The tournament will be played in nine (9) rounds Swiss System with the rate of play in 25 minutes per player to finish the game.
"I am glad for this invitation of PACE. This is the biggest tournament and if God wills, this will result for best and i am looking forward that we can choose the best player in Tuguegarao", first Asia's Grandmaster Eugene Torre stated during the press conference held at the DENR Region 2.
In cooperation with the office the Governor, Office of the Vice Governor, and Office of the City Mayor, this Chess Festival will be of great help and contribution in promoting tourism in Tuguegarao.
"This is a national tournament. Chess Players from different provinces in the country will be joining the Open Chess Festival here in Tuguegarao", 9th Grandmaster of the Philippines Jayson Gonzales said.
The grandmaster said that it is important that one believes in the contribution of chess to his living.
"Ang kasinungalingan sa Chess ay hindi nagwawagi. To play is to focus and relax. It must be true to your heart. Just do the focus and continous advocacy", Grandmaster Torre admonished. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
