Tuguegarao City (15 September) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 2 is set to celebrate the national family week which is focused for families of overseas workers on September 20-24, 2010.
Ms. Imelda Decena, Social Worker II, said this year's celebration is focused on the theme: "Migranteng Pamilyag Pilipino Matatag saan man sa Mundo".
Decena said the celebration aims to maintain close family ties of members of the families of overseas workers and to inculcate the essence of living as one happy family despite trials and troubles of life.
It is being reported that number of OFW family members involved in different crimes is increasing.
There are also studies that many OFW families were broken due to distance from each other.
"Family is the basic unit of the society. If families live happy and peaceful then the whole community will be peaceful also and it will lead to progress", Decena stated.
One of the activities to be done will be a family fun day for families of OFWs and the conduct of a community medical mission.
Decena also added that they will consider the conduct of a forum for children and family members of OFWs, and a program for those who are in jail. (PIA-2) [top]
