DOT 2 spearheads National Tourism Week celebration

Tuguegarao City (15 September) -- The Department of Tourism Regional Office 2 (DOT 2) recently announced its activities in celebration of the National Tourism Week on September 21-27, 2010 and the World Tourism Day on September 27 with the theme, "Tourism and Biodiversity."
DOT 2 Director Blessida Diwa said that the theme is in line with the International year of Biodiversity as announced by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
Diwa added that the theme provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness of the importance of biodiversity to tourism and the role of sustainable tourism in the conservation of life on Earth.
Diwa explained that as a leading economic activity, sustainable tourism has an important role and responsibility in managing and conserving biological natural resources and can generate significant revenues for conservation and community development.
In Cagayan Valley, the NTW will commence with a Thanksgiving mass on September 21, 8:00 in the morning at the DOT, to be followed with a band show, culinary tourism and Open House.
A Mobile Tourism Exhibit in three venues namely: NEDA Regional Office- September 1-27; University of St. Louis- September 15-18 and San Jacinto Seminary-September 19-24.
The DOT has also embarked on a massive information dissemination campaign of RA 9593 or the Tourism Act of 2009 in various colleges and universities of Cagayan such as St. Paul University Philipines (SPUP), Florencio L. Vargas College (FLVC), University of St. Louis (USL), International School of the Asia and the Pacific (ISAP), University of Cagayan Valley (UCV) and Cagayan State University (CSU).
Also highlighting the monthlong celebration is the Regional Tourism Quiz which will be held in Cauayan City on September 27, to be participated by the provincial winners in the five provinces (Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Baatanes and Quirino) and the three cities (Tuguegarao, Cauayan and Santiago City).
On the other hand, Diwa announced that the WTD celebration which will be hosted by Guangdong Province, China will feature the World Tourism Day Think Tank to be hosted by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA).
The Think Tank will bring together leading public and private tourism stakeholders as well as biodiversity experts and members of the media, to highlight the close relationship between tourism and biodiversity and to identify how tourism can contribute to preserving life on Earth. (PIA 2) [top]
