Parents, studes oppose 2 more years in school
Vigan City (15 September) -- Some parents and students in Ilocos Sur have expressed their opposition on the Department of Education's proposal to add two more years in the educational system.
The two additional years would prepare the students in entering tertiary education and eventually improve the quality of education, according to the DepEd.
But Angelica Rabaca, a parent from Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur, said that they are presently hard up in sending their children to school. Adding two more years would worsen their financial woes.
Victoria Ramos, also a parent from Sta Cruz town shared the same problem with Rabacca. She believes there are other alternatives to improve quality of education such as upgrading the teaching skills of mentors through trainings providing adequate books to students and teaching materials to teachers, among others.
But Robert Dauz, a students from Tagudin town, favors the additional two years of schooling, provided the government shoulders all expenses. (PIA) [top]
