DTI seizes 30 defective weighing scales
Vigan City (15 September) -- In a bid to protect the buying public from unscrupulous market vendors, a multi-agency team organized by the Department of Trade and Industry here conducted a market saturation drive in Narvacan town resulting in the confiscation of defective weighing scales.
The team tested 256 weighing scales at the Narvacan Public Market and found 30 to be defective. The team confiscated the faulty machines.
To ensure that buyers will not be shortchanged, Mayor Zuriel S. Zaragosa assured the team that the local government will install DTI- calibrated weighing scales in strategic areas in the public market.
In Sinait town, the team focused their inspection on hardware stores on their compliance with product standards under Memo Circular No. 6, series of 2010 which requires the mandatory labeling certification of compact fluorescent lamps and other lighting products.
Retailers have until December 3 this year to dispose existing unlabelled inventories in their stocks. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
