FDA Caraga bares unsafe, dangerous cosmetic products

Butuan City (15 September) -- The Food and Drug Administration (formerly Bureau of Food and Drugs) of the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga released FDA Circular No. 2010-015, "declaring the identified products to be imminently injurious, unsafe or dangerous and authorizing the FDA inspectors to seize said products from the public sale or distribution".

In a press conference spearheaded by DOH, Ms. Perla Alvizo, Food and Drug Regulation Officer bared that FDA have found through laboratory examination that the samples of the following cosmetic products that were collected on separate occasions at various establishments/outlets are dangerous.

Said products are as follows: 1) St. Dalfour Beauty Whitening Cream made from Tokyo, Japan; 2) Beauty Girl Papaya & Hawthorn Essence (10 double whitening speckles removed essence) made from Yudantang International ? Taiwan; 3) Beauty Girl Ginseng & Green Cucumber (10 double whitening speckles removed) made from Yudantang International ? Taiwan; 4) Beauty Girl Essence Aloe Pearl (10 double whitening speckles removed essence) made from Yudantang International ? Taiwan; and 5) Beauty Girl Olive & Sheep Essence (10 double whitening speckles removed essence) made from Yudantang International ? Taiwan.

"These cosmetic products therefore pose imminent danger or injury to the consuming public and the importation, selling or offering for sale of such is in direct violation of Republic Act No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009," added Alvizo.

Alvizo also stressed that in the interest of protecting public health and safety and pursuant to Section 12 of Republic Act No. 9711, the Food and Drug Regulation Officers (both from FDA central office and the regions) are hereby ordered to seize immediately the identified cosmetic products for custody from all outlets or establishments where they may be found.

The assistance of all local government units and consumers are sought in reporting all outlets found selling the said products. (PIA-Caraga/DOH-13) [top]
